Year 2

Hello, and welcome to our Year 2 page!

The adults supporting your children this Year are Mr Dean (Class Teacher), Mrs Peach (Teaching Assistant) and our phase leader Mrs Hadfield (Assistant Head).

We look forward to working with you over the next year supporting your child. We will ensure we show how we are ready for learning, show how we are respectful to one another and that we are safe within our school and beyond. We encourage every child to ASPIRE in Year 2 and this will be our driving force to develop your child into resilient and curious learners.

A member of the Year 2 team will greet your child on the door each morning. Please do not hesitate to speak us if there is anything that you need and we will do all we can... or find an answer for you and get back to you.

During our Autumn term, our P.E days are on a Monday and a Thursday, please remember to wear full P.E kit on these days and remove any earrings in line with our schools uniform policy.

Reading at Home

Each week your child will bring home Read, Write Inc books and a library book. These are changed weekly. The phonics books practise the sounds and words that your child are learning in their phonics groups each week; these should be practised daily at home in order for your child to become effortless and fluent in their reading. There will also be a library book in your child's bag; these are to read together and talk about the pictures and events from each story. We ask for children to complete a short book review (which will be provided). This encourages your child to think about what they enjoyed about a book and to think about sequence of events and characters which supports them to develop as readers in their reading journey.

Children: Don't forget to read at home for 20 minutes every day and ask an adult to sign your reading record. Remember 20 is plenty and you will receive raffle tickets for your reading!!

Adults: Research has proven that reading for 20 minutes every day with your child makes a huge difference in building confidence and fluency in reading. Practise makes perfect! Please refer to the picture above.

Our PE days

Mondays and Thursdays  (please remember to wear full PE kit on these days and remove all earrings before you come to school). If you are unsure please refer to our school policy or ask a member of the Year 2 team on the door before or after school, we will be happy to answer any questions you have and get back to you with an answer.
