Year 2

Hello, and welcome to Year 2!

Our Year  2 team are Miss Dolan (teacher) and Mrs Idress (Teaching Assistant)  and our phase leader is Miss Doan - our Deputy Headteacher.  If there is anything you need, please just ask one of us and we will do all we can, or find and answer for you and get back to you.

Over this next year, we are going to strive to be resilient and curious learners who follow our St Stephen's school rules. We are showing respect to one another and our teachers,  being safe within our school and beyond, listening to the guidance of Jesus,  as well as being ready to learn each and every day.

Reading at Home

Your child will bring home phonics based books and a library book each week. These will be changed weekly. The phonics books practise the sounds and words that the children are learning in their phonics group each week; these should be practised daily at home in order for reading to become effortless for your child. There will also be a library book in your child's book bag; these are to read together and talk about the pictures and events from each story. We ask for the children to complete a book review of their library book. This encourages your child to think about what they enjoyed about a book and to think about sequence of events and characters which supports them to develop as readers in their reading journey.

Children: Don't forget to read at home for 10 minutes every day and ask an adult to sign your reading record. Remember that you will receive raffle tickets for your reading!!

Adults: Research has proven that reading for 10 minutes every day with your child makes a huge difference in building confidence and fluency in reading. Practise makes perfect!
