Reading Workshop - 3rd October 2024

Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for our Reading Workshop where we explored what Phonics is and what our reading scheme Read Write Inc looks like. The children then played a variety of Fred games using oral blending and initial sound games.

If you were unable to attend the meeting, you can find out more information about Read Write Inc phonics by clicking here

Postbox Walk

In December, the children wrote invites to their Wriggly Nativity. They then walked across to the nearest postbox, following the Green Cross Code, to post their invites to their family. They then created their own letters and invites within the provision areas.

Trip to Guide Bridge Theatre

In February, Reception visited Guide Bridge Theatre to watch a performance by 2Boards and a Passion. The show was based on how these is always time to play. We joined in singing lots of well known nursery rhymes and had lots of giggles at the hilarious script. We are looking forward to another trip to Guide Bridge in the Summer term.

Spring Reading Event

We talked about the importance of reading 20 minutes a day with the children reading for part of that time and the remaining time them being read to. Today's session also focussed on the importance of vocabulary. The children then taught the adults how we create stories with a character, setting, problem and a solution. They created their stories in their groups then they made their own puppets to represent their characters. The children then performed some of their poems from the Poetry Basket. When they returned back to class, some of the children acted out the stories they had made. The powerpoint for this session is now on Reception's class page.
